Standard Description
There are no dumb questions.
All staff are expected to:
- Ask questions whenever they do not know, are unsure, or need clarification.
- Seek understanding rather than proceeding with uncertainty.
- Respond honestly when asked a question. If they do not know the answer, they
must say so clearly.
Leaders and experienced staff must encourage questions and model this behaviour.
Reason: A learning mindset improves communication, reduces mistakes, and builds
competence across the team.
-
Measurement Method
Observe team interactions. Confirm that:
- Staff ask clarifying questions without hesitation.
- Responses are honest and free from bluffing.
- Managers respond supportively to questions.
-
Applies To
- All staff
- All tasks and operational contexts
- All training and supervisory situations
-
Review and Maintenance
Review annually or sooner if communication issues or repeated mistakes indicate
staff are not asking questions when unsure.
